Two of the main things that create a poker game’s atmosphere are the environment and the outfits. For instance, a casual game with friends at home doesn’t really require a specific outfit. And if you’re the one hosting your friends, you’ll want to make your house guest-ready by setting the mood yourself, such that it can really be whatever you want it to be. You can do this by decluttering and laying out some snacks for your game, for instance –– but it’s unlikely you’ll fancy things up too much.

On the other hand, if you’re headed to the casino for a fabulous night out or you’re participating in a tournament, you can dress your best to commit to the exciting, high-stakes atmosphere. This is something we can draw from several professional poker players who –– despite the growing perception of poker as a hoodie-and-sunglasses kind of affair –– put as much effort into how they look as into how they play.

Below are a few of them worth emulating:

1. Olivia Boeree

Olivia Boeree (also known as Liv) has amassed some $4 million ever since she became a pro poker player (and may well have earned more online). But before she found her interest in poker, she actually worked as a model and a television host. All her experience in fashion and in front of cameras has given her an eye for style. So, it’s no wonder that she tends to be one of the best-dressed players at any live event she participates in. From cute tops to stunning dresses, her style of never looking like “one of the boys” always makes her stand out.

2. Natalie Hof

Natalie Hof is both a poker player and a poker TV presenter. Some of her impressive moments as a player include a win of around $20,000 in the European Poker Tour Berlin Main Event, and finishing as a runner-up in the Eureka Poker Tour Rozvadov Mini Event. In terms of her fashion, Hof is known for adhering to the power dressing style — which is essentially dressing in a way that makes you feel empowered as a means of boosting confidence. In a male-dominated world like poker, Hof stands out through suits and monochrome outfits, which you’d typically associate with men.

3. Daniel Negreanu

There are also a number of stylish male poker players –– the most famous probably being Daniel Negreanu. A bona fide poker legend, Negreanu is considered one of the greatest living poker players. His major event victories and the millions of dollars he’s raked in are legitimately getting difficult to count and keep track of with any accuracy at this point. Negreanu’s fashion, meanwhile, is cool and sophisticated, with his favorite outfits being a blazer and slacks or a two-piece suit. However, he also appears in a sports jacket or blazer combined with a polo shirt and jeans on occasion for a slightly more casual, but still ultimately stylish look.

4. Marcel Luske

Marcel Luske, given the nickname the “Flying Dutchman,” has been playing since 1999. His first big win was at the Prague Poker Open in January 2001 –– which he quickly followed with three victories in three days at the Euro Finals of Poker the next month. By the end of that year, he was the number one player in Europe and became poker’s Player of the Year in 2002, 2003, and 2004. Luske always sits at games in a tailored suit. But what sets him apart from similarly-dressed players is that he sometimes wears trendy sunglasses as well — upside down. Talk about being a style icon!

5. Charlie Carrel

Charlie Carrel started his poker career at an impressively young age. At 21 years old, his first victory was at the 2015 PokerStars European Tour in Monte Carlo, where he won at least a million dollars and beat more than 200 players. By 2018, he had already won almost $8 million. Unlike the other players on this list, Carrel doesn’t show up in a perfectly tailored suit or fashion-forward outfit. Instead, he has a hippie-chic kind of style of his own, showcased via brightly colored clothing of all kinds. This makes him easy to spot at tables, and quite fashionable in a unique way.

There are plenty of other poker players who routinely make themselves look good at the tables as well. But these five sets some of the best fashion examples in the game.
