He’s one of history’s most successful male supermodels. Having earned an estimated net worth of over ten million dollars, he has more to him than just piercing blue eys and a great smile. He’s smart too! David Gandy is The Man when it comes to male fashion, as well as being a university graduate for marketing and computing. We’re sure he used that to some extent. With all of that, one might wonder how he got so far. Here’s his story.
After having started his modeling career with Select Model Management, he was able to land campaigns modeling for brands such as Shiatzy Chen, 7 for all Mankind, Zara, Gant USA, Hugo Boss, Russell & Bromley, H&M, Carolina Herrera, Massimo Dutti and others. In 2006, he landed a deal with Dolce & Gabanna. Taking a risk by including this very muscular male model, he turned out to be quite the success and worked for them many years afters.
In 2007, he became famous for the advertisement of Dolce & Gabbana’s fragrance ‘Light Blue’ with Marija Vujović which had 11 million online hits. He became the face of the second ‘Light Blue’ fragrance campaign for 2010, this time with Anna Jagodzinska. He also made a short promotional film for W Hotels with Helena Christensen called “Away We Stay”. In 2011, the fashion house published “David Gandy by Dolce & Gabbana”, a 280-page photographic coffee table book of images chronicling their years of collaboration. With such a success, they hosted public meet and greets in Milan where Gandy met fans and signed autographs.
In 2013, Dolce & Gabbana released the third version of the ‘Light Blue’ fragrance campaign featuring Gandy. He also dabbled in a little bit of film such as “David Gandy’s Goodnight.” In it, he seduces several women who discover later that he has stolen their shoes. Jaguar also released a short film called “Escapism” which featured Gandy driving models such as the C-Type, E-Type, XKSS as well as F-Type. Being Jennifer Lopez’s love interest in her 2014 “First Love” music video was also a huge score.
Marks and Spencers offered David the opportunity to design a collection of clothing for their chain of stores. He did so successfully, naming it “Gandy For Autograph.” The line turned out to be hugely successful. It started as a small line of underwear and sleep wear. But later it evolved into a sports wear, swimwear, causal wear and under wear line. The store continued his fashion line and even claims it to be one of their most profitted ever!
He’s not just gorgeous and fashion savvy. He also has a heart. In 2013, David launched “Blue Steel Appeal”, his charity foundation created to raise money for Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day. The foundation got its name from Zoolander. They host a series of fundraising events. The first was an online auction which included collectible items and fashion experiences donated by Victoria Beckham, Mollie King, Dolce & Gabbana, Lucky Brand Jeans, One Direction and others. In 2014, Gandy participated in the “One for the Boys” celebrity style show organised by Samuel L. Jackson to promote awareness of testicular cancer and encourage early detection of the disease.
Clearly, this man is doing very well in the fashion industry. He is a well rounded individual who’s looks, talent and charitable attitude work great together. He is an inspiration to male youths trying to get a start in the industry.
