It’s true: the messier it gets, the better it looks. Braids have been having their moment for way longer than, well, a moment. And, judging by the range in the upcoming Free People August magalog  ‘The Great Escape’, they’re not going away any time soon.

You already know how to plait but there’s a few styling secrets when it comes to braiding. Here, Amy Farid from Suite Caroline Salon who created these looks, speaks exclusively to Gritty Pretty and reveals her top tips for recreating them:

1.
Instead of a roller set, do braid sets. Spray a texturising or sea salt spray into the hair, braid, and then let the hair dry. When you take out the braids you will have the most perfect mermaid texture.

2.
It is easier to braid dirty hair, which is great if you don’t have time to wash your hair. However, if your hair is clean, spray in some dry shampoo  – it will give your hair some texture. Then, start braiding away! Be fun and experimental with it – use different sized-sections and braid in different directions.

3.
Backcomb the hair instead of using an elastic or rubber band to hold the braid. Yes, you read right. After braiding, backcomb the ends with a tail comb. Give the ends a good blast of hairspray and it will magically hold.

And just because, a little inspiration…
