While at times the clothes are all the rage, there is a lot more that goes into looking like a model than the top runway fashion designs. For starters, think accessories, makeup and shoes. Also, anyone in the industry or not should take into consideration that healthy and flawless skin is truly a big deal. After careful research (thank you internet), we discovered that there are some easy tips and tricks to have fashion model skin, whether you are in the industry or just going through your daily routine.

Rule Number 1:
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Water is your best friend. While most models avoid sugary juice drinks and most certainly avoid sodas, water is the clear alternative. Many industry professionals will say to have at least 8 glasses of water per day; however this sometimes gets trumped with overconsumption of caffeine, sodas with high sugars and high caloric fruit drinks. The human body is made up with 50%-70% water, therefore model or non-model alike might want to consider drinking some water. Actually, drink a lot.

Rule Number 2:
Educate yourself about skin products. While models are usually used to top end makeup lines that are on the spendy level and are of course pampered with heavy duty makeup during runway time, it is important to always read the label. Treat your makeup as you would as a food label in the grocery store. Read the ingredients before applying.  Avoid products that have the “wrong” alcohol and these are truly the product to avoid – anyone can Google this. On the other hand, while it is easy to do a quick fix, there are several products on the market that have alcohol levels on a healthy basis. The point is here to talk to your peers, and more importantly, find a solution that works for your own personal skin.

Rule Number 3:
Eat Healthy. While we know this is super difficult for a model on the run, it is all about planning ahead to have the healthy foods you like, and eat healthy at the same time. It is crucially important to take a high-quality vitamin-per day, and to eat. Yes, eating is a good thing. While most models on the run do not pay exact attention to protein, vegetable and food intake, there are several resources that will help you monetize this for your budget and plan ahead when you are busy.

Rule Number 4:
Sleep. Sleep is important and this does not mean a time out on the town bar-hopping, however alcohol in moderation when you have jobs the next day is certainly a good thing.  While going out as a model is super entertaining; the end result when not is less bags under the eyes, fresh looking skin and overall more energy.  Even if you can get it only 6 hours of sleep, this is better than absolutely nothing at all.

Rule Number 5:
Get your sunshine on. Vitamin D is your friend. What many people do not realize is that many models deal with eczema and a little sunshine can go a long way. While taking an everyday multi-vitamin will do wonders, and not just for your skin, but sunshine can keep eczema under control and give you a soft glow. No, we are not saying to spend hours in a tanning bed, but if you have the chance to exercise outdoors, do so. On the other hand, if you are living in the concrete jungle of Manhattan it wouldn’t hurt to pop in a tanning bed, but just don’t go overboard – just a couple of minutes per week.
