How to make the most of your salt scrub

Exfoliation is a wonderful way to awaken your entire body, and it can be a truly reviving experience. However, it often isn’t as you would hope. Rather, many body exfoliators are underwhelming, with few abrasive grains, a slippery texture, and a far from perfect synthetic fragrance. So, with that in mind, let’s take a look at how to make the most of your salt scrub.

Sea salts are key

The key to exfoliation is using mineral-rich sea salts. They’re perfect for detoxing, replenishing, and exfoliating your skin and effortlessly awakening your body and senses. They also successfully boost circulation and wipe away dead cells, which results in clearer, fresher skin. You can also throw Himalayan pink salts into the mix, as is the case with these Exfo-Lite Stimulating Salts for Legs from Legology. They provide additional support for your lymph – the body’s waste disposal network – ensuring that you can thoroughly and deeply cleanse yourself.

How to use salts correctly

Apply to your legs

Your first job is to apply your exfoliator to dry legs before stepping into the shower. To do this, empty a palmful of salts into your hand and massage it gently in small circles onto your legs. You don’t need to rub too hard for the salts to get to work, and you should focus specifically on areas that are prone to scaliness and dryness. In sweeping movements, massage gently up from your heels and over your thighs, as this encourages the drainage of the lymph.

Don’t rush

It’s really important not to rush the process, and you need to ensure that you thoroughly apply the salts to see a pinkness on your skin. This is evidence that the skin is nutrient-rich and indicates that freshly oxygenated blood is circulating. In other words, it’s a good sign, so make sure you don’t rush the process.

Apply to your stomach

Once you’ve taken care of your legs, apply the salts to your stomach. Add some salts to your hand and work your way across your stomach, from one side to the other. Lightly massage your stomach with gentle circular movements, and be sure to cover all areas. Again, don’t rush and be mindful of how much pressure you apply.

Apply to your chest and arms

If you have enough salts in your exfo pack, it’s a good idea to apply some to your chest and arms. You should apply the salts by sweeping across your shoulder blade and down your neck. It’s all about small, gentle circles, and you can work down your chest and arms until you’ve covered all bases.

Rinse and finish

Now it’s time to rinse the salts by hopping in the shower. You will discover that as you begin rinsing, the salts will turn to a milky fluid which softens your skin. After rinsing in the shower, step out and wrap yourself in a warm towel. But instead of rubbing your skin, pat it dry to allow the product to continue moisturising.
This is also the perfect time to add some cream or oil to your skin. For instance, this Air-Lite contouring cream was made for this precise moment and will deal with areas of congestion. Ultimately, it’s the perfect way to finish your exfoliation to ensure the maximum possible benefit to your skin.
