We all have those old traditions that we continue to do even if we know that they aren’t the best for us in the long run. However, sometimes it’s better to get rid of the bad and bring in the new. Especially when it comes to your beauty regimen! This article is going to give you 3 things that you need to remove from your beauty regimen, with better alternatives.

WASHING YOUR HAIR DAILY

Some may argue that they have very oily hair that needs to be washed on a daily basis. In reality, washing hair on a daily basis does nothing but encourage higher oil production in the long run. Why? If you are constantly shampooing the scalp and stripping it completely of its natural oils then you will send it into hyperdrive in attempt to nourish the scalp.

The alternative? Try Co-washing your hair daily and shampooing every 3 days. Cowashing is when you utilize a cheapy conditioner to gently cleanse the scalp and hair. This is much milder approach to shampooing daily and is much healthier.

GOING TO SLEEP WITH MAKEUP ON

We know. We know. You’re so tired by time you get in that you can’t make it to the bathroom to wash your face at night. But, sleeping with makeup on over time can age the skin dramatically, as well as cause breakouts and unevenness.

The alternative? It’s best if you do a full on face wash before bed. Meaning that you remove your makeup and wash your face with a cleanser then follow up with a moisturizer. However, if you want to take the minimalist route, keep makeup remover wipes and acne wipes by your bed. Use the makeup remover wipe first, then follow up with the acne wipe to ward off any potential breakouts.

SHAVING YOUR LEGS DAILY

You want that super smooth and silky touch when you think of your legs. So, you shave on a daily basis to make sure that you keep hair to a minimum. Sadly, that’s not the best way to handle the situation. Shaving the legs daily actually thins the skin overtime and leaves the pores wide open on a regular basis and makes your legs more sensitive to outside elements, scarring, bruising, redness etc. That’s the opposite of what you want your legs to look like!

The alternative? Try shaving your legs every other day. Hair does not grow so fast that there will be a drastic difference in the appearance. It’s likely just something that you do out of habit. Shaving every other day will help you in the future!
